Excessive Heat Warnings & Heat Advisories Posted

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for all of their tri-state counties beginning at 11 AM today and running through Midnight Monday night. The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued an excessive heat warning today for their tri-state counties and NWS Lincoln has issued a heat advisory for their tri-state counties from noon today through midnight Monday. Also, the National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a heat advisory for Tuesday because the heat will still be present. I would imagine the other NWS offices will issue heat advisories for the remaining tri-state counties  for Tuesday.

Bottom line, it will be a dangerous no matter what so please take precautionary actions. Some tips - Stay indoors in peak heating of the day, check up on neighbors and the elderly, and if you have to be outside for any extended period of time drink plenty of fluid and take frequent breaks

Even Hotter?

Hot, humid weather will prevail heading into the work week. Yesterday was a boring day weather wise, with plentiful sunshine and a high of 90. Pretty much same thing for today just a bit warmer. A high of 93 with plenty of sunshine. If you think this is hot, just wait till Monday and Tuesday. Monday's temperatures will be the hottest we have seen so far this summer, with a high of 96. Tuesday will be a bit cooler (still hot) with a high of 94. I think a heat advisory or excessive heat warning will likely be issued for Monday and possibly Tuesday. It could be our 1st real HOT day this season. With the combination of temperatures in the upper 90's along with dewpoints in the 70's, I would prefer you stay indoors in the peak heating hours.

Along with the heat that we will have to deal with, the air quality won't be much better. Ozone alerts are in effect today for Vanderburgh and Knox Counties. The air quality alert is labeled "unhealthy for sensitive groups" which means young children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems will be susceptible. I'm thinking that there will be ozone alerts also for Monday and Tuesday.

Our next chance for showers and storms will be Monday or Tuesday when a frontal boundary will drape throughout the area. Along with the chance of rain, the front will drop the temperatures by at least 5 degrees bringing seasonal temps. Along with that, it will bring some cloud cover which will be a great relief for everyone!

Typical Summer Forecast

A very typical, summer like pattern is setting up for the weekend. Today it will be warm, but not excessively hot, highs in the upper 80's with plenty of sunshine. Sunday will be warmer, highs in the low 90's with a few clouds around. As we head into early next week, temps will really skyrocket into the mid to possibly upper 90's! Certainly the hottest air of the year that we have to deal so far.

Relief will come as we head into Tuesday, when a cold front passes through the area which will fire some scattered storms/showers. It will also the drop the temperatures along with that humidity!

Independence Day Forecast

The best chance for showers and storms I think will be on Monday. A frontal boundary will be in the area today & tomorrow firing some scattered storms. Even though we are not in any ''official'' risk area, these storms have a chance to be strong to severe. Independence day itself same deal. Some scattered thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and evening, but I think any storms should fizzle out by fireworks time (hopefully).

As for today, partly sunny skies along with scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon, high 91. Tonight, some clouds, muggy, low of 72.
